Building rigs at Telus
Telus offers many advanced products and services to their large business customers. But somehow the complexity of products and systems tended to destandardise their processes. So we did a workshop in which we shared a best practice from the oil industry. You can engineer and build any kind of rig, but that is costfull and timeconsuming. However, a more effective approach is to standardise the product into small and big rigs. It reduced costs and cycle time dramatically.
We applied that metaphor to the challenge of Telus and we discovered we could and should do better by creating our own small and big rigs. The Stocking Factory helped the team to work on their own business processes.
The managers of Telus stated: “The Process Pros presented strong metaphors for our team that could easily be extrapolated to our own work environment and process challenges in our day-to-day practice. Throughout the workshop we discovered many opportunities that challenged our traditional ways of thinking, and caused a valuable paradigm shift towards a simplified and control-focused process mindset. Besides, it was lots of fun doing the factory team-building exercise – highly recommended!”

In the spotlights… a project from the Netherlands
In Holland the authorities are concerned about asbestos, which has been used in the building industry in the seventies on a large scale. It causes many health problems, especially lung cancer. Officially, it is not allowed to dispose asbestos as waste, but how in fact the asbestos waste chain could be set up was the subject of a process simulation we did.
We found that we had to change the system. No more costly surveillance and investigation, but a buy up arrangement by provincial government would stimulate people to comply.

The future looks bright…
October 18th – 29th we will visit British Columbia again. We will work on projects for the Cities of Vancouver and Victoria. Furthermore, we will discuss possible projects with the City of Coquitlam and Providence Healthcare.
We still have some Launching Customer Proposals. A half a day workshop in which we teach you the basis principles of process improvement, do The Stocking Factory and tie the insights back to your own processes. Fun to do, low costs and stunning results!
Do you want to meet with us in October, challenge and discuss our ideas or have more information on the Launching Customer Proposal please contact Erik Steketee (erik@processpros.ca) or Vincent Damen (vincent@processpros.ca).
